A Different University

Deep University is a place where you can learn in a way that is different than anywhere else.  It offers online and on-site programs for deep learning and, in addition, custom-made programs and degrees. This means courses, programs and degrees that are designed by the students.

There are those who prefer adopting a self-standing, ready made program, start a Deep University track, and may decide later where they sit regarding the three phases described below. And there are the mavericks, who will start the whole self-realization process from scratch. They will want to understand who they are before choosing a particular academic path, find friends whoi are good matches to work together, develop a project out of which an educational program may be created, a startup, or both.

Who am I? The admission process includes a Self-Discovery phase (Phase I) during which the students are invited to do self-research, self-testing and self-profiling in defining their interests and their needs. This may imply some adjustments in terms of the most desirable practices to better actualize oneself. This phase may increase healthy activities, increased awareness of one’s environments and influences, and self-actualizing practices. No group practice and no imposed practice: a personal search for meaning in one’s life. The usual end of that Phase I is when you feel the need to share what you discovered.


Finding the match! In Phase II, the journal keeping practice, narrative inquiry and autoethnography of Phase I may be shared with a select group of peers. Choices of potentially well-fitting peers are proposed to the applicants who can find one or two preferred peers for contacts and affinities. The possible loneliness of Phase I is transcended through discovering one’s best peers. In Phase II there is an invitation to discover other cultures and travel abroad, maybe visiting other campuses of Deep University on other continents to get a few courses there and meet people you like. During Phase II you start envisioning a project of your own choosing: something you feel would correspond to who you are. The identity growth project matches your life project. It is important then that you look for peers who might be interested in your project. It is more than finding soul mates or folks who are on the same vibes or frequency: in addition you must be able to work together.

Working together on a life-sustainable project. Phase III is the time for teaming and making your life project concrete. Little by little you have discovered and explored, and further defined the theme of your life, which leads you in a sense to brand yourself. For example, what is the most important for Kathy is friendship. Kathy found friends who want to develop an academic program in friendship, Deep University helped them find the best teachers, and created a graduate degree in Friendship. Other folks join, they create their program and eventually each one of them will decide whether they want to become a Friendship assistant professor at Deep University or in another university, or create their international startup on Friendship.

Look at the following map: you will see how self-discovery is a threshold toward peer discovery, teaming, and creating your customized studies and your customized job because, at Deep University, you are learning to earn.

The degree may be the startup! You start a new life up and get a job and even a vocation or a mission that matches your dreams with partners you like on different continents. Thus branding and conceptualizing lead to the action of your life.
